On sending money and flowers to posters in loss . . .

if what is going on with this "trevorgate" thing is true, i think it is best to simply make a donation to a good cause, instead of directly to the person, unless you have absoulute, direct contact with the situation entirely.

because of my awakenings about all of my own family and jw mental health issues - and in light of the info i've come across today about linda and trevor - i am inspired to make donations to nami and other mental health organizations in the name of "trevor s." and other deluded or abusive people who seriously need help.. there are enough stressors and depressers in my life, without trying to help people who have imaginary problems, (although i don't doubt they too need help - just not the kind of help i can offer!).

if a person or people are laughing at us for our desire to reach out, be humane, offer compassion and act as a family in the way that many of us have been denied by the wtb&ts, the person perpetrating the hoax is so deeply damaged that seeking to punish him/her is counterproductive; however, he/she definitely needs to be confronted and face the natural consequences.

I totally agree with you.

Whatever need this scam fulfilled for this Trevor person, I like to keep in mind that there are lots of scammers on the net and this won't be the first, or the last, and the majority of JWD posters remain relatively unscathed (as far as monetary losses) as a result of this hoax.

The US (and other countries) are knee-deep in investigating/prosecuting Internet crimes (i.e. Nigerian scams, especially), pedophiles, etc. and don't really have the inclination or investigative resources to find some dude who scammed people emotionally with a relatively small amount of loss financially.

I think what this Trevor person was really trying to do was one, or a combination of, two things: 1) draw attention and sympathy; and/or 2) see how far he could take it while playing a mean joke on everyone.

Let's not give him what he needs/wants. Just shut all posts down now and get on with business as usual. I believe we are feeding him what he wants most: attention; and the longer we ruminate on it -- the longer we ponder who, why, where, and how -- the more he gets off on it.

It would be best for us if we deny him his platform.

I think they will also increase the shunning to include all non-JW family members who they do not "necessarily" have to have contact with; i.e., those members with whom there are no binding legal obligations. This will increase their isolation, and thusly, bonding them closer to the Borg; keeping its financial teat intact. If all your relatives are dead to you -- more money for you to leave to Mother in your will!

When Elders go too Far...

this is just something that really peed me off regarding the elders, is how low they are sinking to get gossip and stuff now, i was in contact with a well trusted friend of mine who used to attend meetings up until 2 years ago, his wife is still in the jw org, he was having a joke around on some text messages with me regarding my man saying "try before you buy" and so on, which i found amusing....lets just say his wife didnt...she snooped on his phone, wrote out the texts he had sent me and gave the transcript to the elders, and now he has to go before a judicial commitee.

how wrong is that, for a start its an invasion of privacy!

i was fuming yesterday when i found out.

it seems reliable.

if this is true, i started thinking....... i remember when dateline aired, wouldn't it have been neat to have billboards in major cities, and one across from brooklyn?

Or people could just get one of those magnetic signs (about 30 x 36 inches) made for the sides of their vehicle, and every time they go out driving, just stick it on the car. I've heard their relatively cheap to have made.

How would you rate yourself? I would say a 10. But I lose two points for being on an apostate board; and then I lose 8 points for being a woman. That makes me a big Zero.

Do you have a magnetic personality? Apparently: I've been stuck on this Maytag refrigerator since 1989, and the Maytag repairman is too busy doing crossword puzzles to take my plight seriously.

Does everyone want to invite you to their party?? Yes, but I can't go. Thank you Maytag.

Are you a loner? Yes, in a way. If I could just get closer to the I Love Lucy magnet; the We Pets Veterinary Clinic magnet; and the Relief Chiropractic Clinic magnet, I'd be a PETA member who loves animals with spines.

I really think though that letting them do this is not loving. "Enabling" her to send me emails and check on me but not call or be part of my life is letting her not make a decision about where she stands. They should be made to stick to their convictions! If they are going to be JWs, I feel like holding them to that decision isn't so bad!
I am here waiting for open arms the moment they decide to come out, be honest, and DA. Then I'll open my arms wide. But if she can't tell my dad and the rest of the JWs that she calls it quits and comes to me for GOOD, I'm not

She's either all there, or she's not. Hold them to their convictions, and when they waffle, still hold them to their convictions. People don't CHOOSE their families, they are born into them. They CHOSE to be part of an organization that snubs family members, you didn't. They are still your relatives no matter what. This is the punishment they are inflicting on YOU, not you inflicting on them!

They like for it to be YOUR fault: that if you chose the world over JEHOVAH... then it's your fault that they shun you. No. You chose SANITY over INSANITY. You chose the WORLD. Sorry, you just chose love and serenity.

It's hard, but I would choose SERENITY, and not play her games anymore. If she wants to contact you, it'll be on YOUR terms, and not her stupid, doped-up delusional terms.
